This editorial analyzes the changes introduced by CAPES in the evaluation process of the intellectual production of stricto sensu graduate programs for the 2025–2028 evaluation cycle, with emphasis on scientific articles in the fields of Education and Teaching. It highlights the transition from a model centered on journal-based classification (Qualis Periódico) to an evaluation focused on individual scholarly output, taking into account thematic alignment, academic and educational impact, and theoretical-methodological consistency. The text also discusses the role of scientific journals in this new context, emphasizing the importance of editorial curation, research integrity, and qualified visibility of scholarly production. Finally, it addresses the incorporation of artificial intelligence tools into evaluation and funding processes, underscoring the ethical and institutional challenges posed to contemporary educational research.
