Policy for the use of AI

The journal Educar Mais, a scientific publication focused on the fields of Teaching and Education, recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are being increasingly incorporated into contemporary academic practices, especially as support for writing and organizing scientific texts. Considering this scenario, the journal establishes this policy with the aim of guiding authors, reviewers, and editors, ensuring a commitment to scientific integrity, human intellectual authorship, transparency, and ethics in the production of knowledge.

This policy is aligned with the recommendations of internationally recognized organizations and publishers in ethics and scientific publication, such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), SciELO, Cambridge University Press, Elsevier, Wiley and SAGE.

  1. General Principles

The Educar Mais magazine adopts the following principles regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence:

  • Scientific production is an intellectual, critical, and human process that cannot be automated.
  • AI can be used exclusively as a support tool, and not as a substitute for intellectual work;
  • The authors are fully responsible for the content of the manuscript.
  • The use of AI must be ethical, transparent, and supervised.
  1. Authoring and Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to the Educar Mais Journal. This guideline is based on the understanding that AI systems:

  • They assume no ethical, scientific, or legal responsibility for the content;
  • They do not approve final versions of manuscripts;
  • They are not liable for conflicts of interest;
  • They do not guarantee the originality and integrity of scientific production.

Scientific authorship is therefore an exclusive attribute of human researchers.

  1. Permitted Uses of Artificial Intelligence

The use of Artificial Intelligence tools for technical support is permitted, provided it does not compromise the intellectual authorship of the manuscripts. Permitted uses include:

  • Grammatical, spelling, and stylistic revision;
  • improving clarity and textual cohesion;
  • support for the translation of academic texts;
  • Assistance in formally adapting the manuscript to the journal's guidelines.

All AI-supported content must be carefully reviewed and validated by the authors, who remain responsible for its quality and scientific accuracy.

  1. Prohibited Uses of Artificial Intelligence

The use of AI tools is not permitted for:

  • to automatically draft parts of the article, such as theoretical framework, methodology, data analysis, or conclusions;
  • interpret results or construct scientific arguments;
  • to generate, simulate, fabricate, or manipulate research data;
  • Creating or modifying images, charts, or tables with the purpose of distorting information;
  • to produce non-existent or unverifiable references;
  • to replace the critical thinking and intellectual elaboration of the authors.

The identification of inappropriate use of AI may result in the rejection of the manuscript , according to the journal's editorial guidelines.

  1. Transparency and Declaration of AI Use

When using Artificial Intelligence tools, authors must explicitly declare this use in the manuscript, in a specific section before the references, entitled:

Declaration of use of Artificial Intelligence and AI-assisted technologies

Suggested statement template:

“During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used the Artificial Intelligence tool [tool name], version [number/date], exclusively for [describe the purpose, for example: linguistic revision or textual organization]. After this use, the author(s) critically reviewed all the content and assume(s) full responsibility for the scientific integrity, originality, and ethics of the publication.”

The absence of this statement, when applicable, may be considered a lack of transparency in the submission process.

  1. Authors' Responsibility

The authors are fully responsible for the content of the manuscript submitted to the Educar Mais Journal, including any sections revised or improved with the aid of Artificial Intelligence. This responsibility covers theoretical, methodological, analytical, ethical, and legal aspects of the publication.

  1. Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Editorial Process

Editors and reviewers should not use generative Artificial Intelligence tools to evaluate, analyze, or justify editorial decisions regarding manuscripts submitted to the journal, considering that:

  • Peer review requires critical and scientific judgment;
  • The use of AI may compromise the confidentiality of manuscripts;
  • There is a risk of inaccurate or compromised analyses.

The editorial process should be conducted based on qualified human evaluation.

  1. Final Provisions

The Educar Mais Magazine understands Artificial Intelligence as a contemporary technological resource that, when used responsibly, can contribute to improving scientific communication. However, it reaffirms that the production of knowledge in the areas of Teaching and Education is a formative, critical, and social process that cannot be delegated to automated systems.

The ethical use of AI should strengthen the principles of authorship, scientific rigor, transparency, and educational commitment that guide the journal's editorial activities.
