Narratives on teacher training: genders and sexualities in question

This article is a study linked to the research group "Histories of Teacher Training Who Teach Mathematics" (Hifopem) and aims to problematize the narratives of early childhood education teachers in a municipality in the state of Maranhão about their academic training, intertwined with discussions of gender and sexuality. The research is biographical and narrative in nature, using the narrative interview proposed by Fritz Schütze as a data generation and analysis tool. This article presents excerpts from the narratives of four preschool teachers about their training and the demands of daily school life involving discussions of gender and sexuality. The study indicates gaps in teacher training on the topic at hand, and that these gaps lead to insecurity when discussing gender relations and sexuality in the school environment. It highlights the school as a space marked by contradictions. It also highlights that teachers who have had greater exposure to the topic during their training feel more comfortable bringing these discussions into the classroom.
