IDEB-2019 results suggest progress in high school

Nine states achieved an IDEB greater than or equal to 6 in the early years of elementary school. São Paulo had the best performance, with 6.7 points, followed by the Federal District, Santa Catarina, Paraná and Minas Gerais, with 6.5 points; Ceará, with 6.4 points; Goiás, with 6.2 points; Espírito Santo, with 6.1 points; and Rio Grande do Sul, with 6 points. Pará had the lowest result, with 4.9 points, but surpassed its goal of 4.7 points. In the final years of elementary school, the increase was 0.2 points, with a final result of 4.9 points. Despite the improvement, the index was below the target of 5.2 points in 2019. This teaching stage has 61,800 schools and 11.9 million students in Brazil. The state of São Paulo had the best performance, with 5.5 points, but failed to reach the individual goal of 5.9 points. Seven states managed to fulfill their goals: Amazonas, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Piauí, Ceará, Paraná and Goiás. The lowest results were for Amapá, with 4 points, and Pará, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe and Bahia, with 4.1 points.
