Acesso Aberto: Democratização do Conhecimento e Impactos na Ciência e na Sociedade

O editorial aborda a importância do acesso aberto para democratizar o conhecimento científico, ressaltando sua origem nos anos 1990 e seu papel na promoção da inclusão, transparência e equidade no acesso à informação acadêmica. Destaca os benefícios do modelo, como maior visibilidade dos artigos, aceleração da colaboração científica e impacto social em áreas como saúde e educação. Embora enfrente desafios financeiros e riscos de periódicos predatórios, o acesso aberto é fortalecido por políticas públicas, subsídios e iniciativas colaborativas, como o SciELO no Brasil e o Plano S na Europa. Conclui-se que o acesso aberto é essencial para um sistema acadêmico mais inclusivo e eficiente.
