The present research was developed with the objective of understanding the perception of the students of the school project Bate Bola of the Basketball modality regarding the development of classes based on research as an educational principle. The approach is qualitative, of an interpretive type and the data collection procedure was a questionnaire with open questions. Data analysis consisted of triangulation between empiricism, interpretation and inferences. Thirty-four (34) students who attended the project participated as research subjects. The dimensions of analysis, interpretation and inference were three: a) self-assessment; b) the knowledge developed in the classes and; c) teaching method through research. We consider that research and reconstructive questioning are elements that induce the individual to doubt and the search for his own elaboration, leading to the autonomy and creativity of the participants of this investigation. We found that students perceive the need to advance in the knowledge of the modality, by learning the body as a reference for knowledge construction, and by the methodological proposal of the production of research in the teaching of Basketball in the school project Bate Bola.
