Abstract

ABSTRACT

Nutrition is a limiting factor in the production and quality of barley seeds. In this sense, an adequate supply of nitrogen to obtain productivity and physiological quality of seeds. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the responses of two barley cultivars, BRS Brau and BRS Caue, to different applications of nitrogen fertilization rates, inferring on the increase or reduction of productivity and physiological quality for different situations. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, in a 2x4 factorial scheme, (two cultivars X four nitrogen rates) and the treatments consisted of a combination of two cultivars (BRS Cauê and BRS Brau) and four nitrogen rates, totaling eight treatments. The experiment was conducted in the city of Capão do Leão and data collection to evaluate the response of plants to nitrogen doses regarding the yield and physiological quality of barley seeds were analyzed in the Seed Analysis Laboratory of the Graduate Program in Seed Science and Technology. The cultivars BRS Brau and BRS Cauê presented different nitrogen requirements for the variables plant height, seeds per square meter, yield per plant and total yield. Regarding the physiological quality of seeds, the use of different nitrogen doses did not significantly affect seed germination and vigor. However, for the isoenzymatic expressions, the different doses of nitrogen fertilization influenced the barley seedlings.
