Abstract

This article seeks to understand how religious racism interferes with the career trajectory of Afro-religious people living in the city of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Through semi-structured interviews carried out during field research, we sought to interview different social actors and understand the implications of discriminatory practices throughout their professional careers. The article seeks to discuss institutional and structural racism, as it problematizes the capillarization of religious racism in different spheres, such as the job market. In addition, we point out how people management can be an important tool for creating grooves in the ideas of meritocracy and racial democracy that structure our society and strongly affect the job market.
