Abstract

This paper seeks to explain which rationality supports and emerges from the practices that are made by the points that constitute the foundations of Mathematical Education in the conception of Higginson (1980) and that are incorporated into Mathematical Modeling (MM) that follows these same assumptions. We view MM in this perspective as one of the most prominent methodological trends for the teaching of Mathematics, primarily in Basic Education. To support the discussion, the text provides subsidies of technical rationality as being the main model of teacher training, punctuating and examining some of its main characteristics that can explain and bring light to the construction of a new rationality, based on Modeling in the conception Mathematics Education assumed for the training of teachers who work in Basic Education. Based on that, it presents elements that are differentiating and promoting a new rationality, based on the systemic view and complexity.
