Abstract

Over the past few years, teaching Portuguese in higher education in China has seen considerable growth in terms of institutions, teachers, and students. Despite this reality, the task of quantifying the elements belonging to this area faces some difficulties due to logistical reasons related to the size of the territory and the number of Chinese higher education institutions. Through a documentary and exploratory research, this study has as main objective. The main conclusions allow us to verify: an increase in the number of students and teachers concerning figures released in previous studies; the categorization of teachers by nationality; the distribution of students according to the type of courses they attend; the student-teacher ratio, as well, some comparative data between mainland China and Macao.
