Abstract

The growth of global energy demand, coupled with the need to preserve natural resources, has led to a diversification of the energy market, focusing on renewable sources. The Brazilian energy matrix is characterized as the most renewable in the world; however, 61,90% of its composition comes from hydroelectric energy. Studies indicate the feasibility of exploiting wave energy throughout the coast of the country and several solutions have been studied on the use of this energy. Yet, there is still no consolidated alternative from a commercial standpoint. Aiming at providing an overview of the research carried out in the area of ocean wave energy conversion along the past five years, a bibliometric study was conducted using the Ordinatio method on the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The results allowed the visualization of studies conducted in countries with high socioeconomic development in the last five years. The method proved to be effective in revealing trends and highlights among the publications, highlighting the low Brazilian scientific production and the need to foster research that will guide advances in the sector.
