Abstract

This article aimed to analyze the imaginary approach of Phylum Cnidaria in High School Textbooks through the Cognitivist Theory of Multimedia Learning (TCAM). The images were analyzed in nine Biology Books, in the chapters referring to cnidarians, being classified as Didactic Value (VD) and Non-Didactic Value (VnD). 171 images were identified, with 39 illustrations of VD which showed imagery deviations, that is, unsatisfactory images considering the analysis according to the Principles of Coherence (PC), Signaling (PS) and Spatial Contiguity (PCE). All books presented some deviated image, with PCE being the most recurrent. It is necessary to establish criteria for inserting images in textbooks, aiming to reduce learning mistakes and facilitate the students' teaching-learning process
