Internationalization at home from a Global South perspective: a bibliometric study

This research is part of the contemporary debates on the internationalization of basic and higher education and the challenges facing the transformations resulting from globalization. This study aimed to present a bibliometric analysis of scientific publications linked to the Web Of Science, SCOPUS, and ScIELO on the subject of internationalization at home (IH). We also investigated the gaps, possibilities, and trends in IH research in the global context at the same time as establishing links to the context of the Global South. The study method is qualitative, bibliometric, and exploratory, with the data represented in tables, graphs, and bibliometric maps. The following main findings stand out: 1) the significant increase in publications on IH; 2) the low representation of researchers from countries in the Global South, and, hence, 3) the lack of specific publications aimed at the geopolitical context of the Global South. In short, as a study subject, IH shows promise, indicating a broad field for further research in the context of the particularities of the emerging countries of the Global South.
