Abstract

Given the need for abstraction to address the complexity of understanding real-world phenomena, it is important to employ strategies that help students understand the ontological entities of the sciences, with a particular focus on metavisualization. The research whose results we present in this article sought to conduct a review of articles on metavisualization available on Google Scholar, Scielo, the CAPES Journal Portal, and Web of Science, providing an overview of the phenomenon – metavisualization and Science Education. Most of the articles provide information related to the field of Chemistry, indicating research possibilities primarily in the fields of Biology and Physics. The elements selected to compose the analyzed corpus were classified into three types: Reviews, Reflections on Visualizations, and Metavisual Strategies, with the latter category containing the largest number of publications, focused on the use of strategies for accessing representative levels and the development of scientific knowledge.
